Vision

Wireless electricity has arrived.   Finally we can think about eliminating power cords and throwing away our recharging transformers and becoming truly wireless.  PowerBeam has created a system that transmits power wirelessly and has made it safe to use in consumer environments so that we can create a truly wireless world by providing the products to eliminate the final, annoying impediments to being wireless. 

Background

Where would we be without wireless networks?  Not only did they make life much more convenient and flexible, once people saw them in action, they thought of new ways to do new things.   It is time for electricity to be similarly wireless.  We insert our WiFi card into our laptop to liberate us from cables and then begin the hunt – first for the clunky wall warts we’ve been lugging around and then– in conference rooms, in airports, in restaurants – for the nearest electrical outlet that will provide the power to keep the unit running. 
Why can’t these devices as well as cell phones and PDAs be charged surreptitiously when we are in a room?  What is the value of wireless audio and video, if the powered speakers and flat-panel displays must be positioned inconveniently near a plug and have unsightly wires hanging down from them?  Why should we need to consider anything other than aesthetics when we position a lamp or mount a ceiling or wall light?  Why should we constantly be fighting with the wire to our vacuum cleaner?
The answer is that, until now, wireless electricity has not been technically feasible.  Now it is.  Cost and performance trends in photonics technologies converged to bring wireless electricity within reach.  PowerBeam takes these advancements, developed the additional technologies, and put them in a package that is effective and safe to use in consumer environments.
